Dear Mr. Bowman:
\JI am enclosing the signed copy of your Memorandum of Agreement.
I have made two modifications reflecting the revised manuscript
which, by the way is proceeding nicely. I hope to have the manuscript to
you closer to January 1976 than to January 1977.
The revisions in page count reflect the fact that several sections in
the preliminary manuscript were far from complete.
In particular several of the later sections were only sketched and the
bibliography was only outlined.
I have included
the phrase `8-1/2"x11"' as a prefix on the page size. I assume that
the published size is 6"x9"; and that therefore the page count will
increase significantly.
As a suggestion for decreasing publication time, I think that I can use
our text editing and formatting programs to produce a copy which will
be a carbon copy of the text as you would publish it.
This would alleviate the problems of getting correct
page numbers for cross-references and index entries. Also
I am currently
revising the text so that all the diagrams are machine-generated, and thus
no hand work would be needed. I would need to know your actual page sizes and
fonts to build such a text.
This text has been a long time project of mine and I'm gratified to
see it finally reaching completion. People who have read various drafts
have felt it will be a good book. I believe it will do well for
McGraw-Hill. Thank you for your contract.
